42 YEARS OF MEMORIES, ACHIEVEMENTS AND HEART-WARMING TRIVIA

Did you know that the name Goldilocks was chosen because it suggested luck and prosperity? And luck it was that the two sisters who started the business shared a common passion: baking. One of them was a nurse who loved to bake and cook, while the other- who was in banking and finance- loved to bake and decorate cakes. With their sister-in-law who was also fond of decorating cakes, they put up their first bakeshop in a one-door apartment along Pasong Tamo, Makati City.

The story of Goldilocks Bakeshop spans 40 years, marked by many achievements and important milestone.

  • The first Goldilocks store opened on May 15, 1966 at 2300 Pasong Tamo Makati City.
  • Goldilocks is the first bakeshop in the Philippines to sell rolls in specially designed long boxes. The plastic roll bags, on the other hand, were originated by Goldilocks and have become the standard for plastic roll bag packaging in the country.
  • Goldilocks is first to innovate packaging for Crema de Fruta in the Philippines. Inspired by a Spanish recipe, it is now considered a Filipino “original”.

  • On its first day, total receipts amounted to P574. In 2007, system-wide total sales reached over P5.9 B.
  • From a workforce of ten when it started, Goldilocks now has over 2,000 employees.
  • Goldilocks is more than just a fairy tale character to you”. (see page 66 of the book “You Know You’re Pinoy If…”)

  • Tube pan cakes in different flavors were among Goldilocks’ first products.
  • The Chocolate Mousse and Black Forest Premium Cakes were inspired by baking trends abroad and adapted to Filipino taste.
  • From its initial offerings of simple baked goods, Goldilocks has expanded to catering services, and full meals and merienda choices with the Pinoy palate in mind.

  • As part of its school nutrition program, USAID accredited Goldilocks to produce Nutribuns in the late 60’s-mid 70’s. They were produced daily at the Pasong Tamo, Makati Plant.
  • As they entered the Philippine market, famous fastfood chains like McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King and Carl’s Jr, partnered with Goldilocks to produce their burger buns.
  • There are now twenty stores in North America, nineteen in the West Coast and two in Vancouver Canada.

  • Goldilocks has provided catering services for many foreign dignitaries, among them was the well-loved Pope John Paul II.

  • Opened in 1984, the Vancouver store is a popular destination for Canadians of European and Asian descent for its wedding cakes.
  • One unusual order ever received by Goldilocks was for a miniature cake replica of the Ali Mall Building for its opening and blessing. The cake, however, could not be brought inside the building, as the cake could not fit through the door!
  • Another request spanned two decades and two continents. In the 70’s, a boy celebrated his birthday with a Goldilocks Batman-themed cake. 20 years later, his sister (who had moved to Canada) ordered a replica of the cake for her own son’s birthday. Goldilocks recreated the cake, using only an old snapshot.
