The Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge

BACKGROUND

Since 2006, Goldilocks has been staging its annual "Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge". The idea behind the competition is to give college students a venue to showcase their creativity and talents. Majority of (baking) industry events focus on professional demos and/or seminars. This year, a record of 91 schools from all over the Philippines submitted entries, in hopes of being one of the 10 finalists.

This is a perfect opportunity to highlight future pastry chefs, and provide support to Hotel and Restaurant and/or Culinary Arts training at the school level. The Overall Winner, for example, receives a baking showcase (for their school) worth P250,000.00

A "submit-display-and-judge" format lacks the originality and excitement of an on-the-spot competition. Drawing inspiration from the hit television show "Iron Chef" and "Iron Chef America", contestants of the Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge share one stage and one central supply bin, and decorate their cakes within a given time frame. This achieves three things: 1) provides the audience an opportunity to witness the actual process of cake decorating; 2) promotes camaraderie and teamwork within the representatives; and 3) provides intensity, urgency, and excitement.

Aside for the annual Intercollegiate Cake Decorating Challenge, Goldilocks will also be staging the 3rd Cake Deco Expo. This year's theme centered on the joy that we find when decorating a cake or when we see a beautifully decorated cake. The 3rd Goldilocks Cake Decorating Expo aims to bring Goldilocks into the forefront of the Cake Decorating Industry by giving this year's attendees a chance to give cake decorating a try through different hands-on workshops that will happen during the day.

The whole day not only promises to bring Cake Decorating suppliers together under one roof, but it also aims to make learning fun and interactive. With workshops happening every hour, attendees get the chance to experience how to handle different cake decorating ingredients and learn them from the experts.
